As I have figured out in the past, it was always easier for me to say what I do not want, instead of defining what it is that I want. Just try it yourself if you don’t believe me!
I do not know exactly why it works, but I guess it’s the change of perspective that gives us more opportunity without the need to be specific. “If you need to pick one car until the rest of your life, what would you pick?” A tricky question, right? You shouldn’t pick the wrong car! I mean, otherwise you are fucked! But observe how that situation is changing once the question goes like this: “What car wouldn’t you pick, if you can only drive this one car until the rest of your life?” And baaammm, we know exactly what we do not want. Not a Ferrari that breaks down, not an electric car that hasn’t enough range, no cabriolet that hasn’t any luggage compartments and the list goes on and on like this.

This technique of turning the question upside down is always brilliant and makes a lot of fun. Just figure out which partner, house, job, company, product you don’t want and you will notice that during this process you figure out exactly what you want.
You can’t say what you don’t want, without knowing what you want.
I do not know if you have already defined your goals in life, but if not, why don’t you start by telling us what you don’t want. The longer you do this, the more specific will be your final answer. And hey, don’t make the mistake to think that you can’t change your goals later on. Changing goals is always an option and most of the time even necessary!
See you next time!
