Car guys and girls always love the cars from their youth. They develop a passion for the car that was up to date when they were younger. Saying that this Porsche 911 generation was the one hanging on my walls would just be such a cliché and totally wrong after all. It’s hanging there today, sure, but not in my youth. Actually, there were no cars hanging on my walls in my youth. I wasn’t into cars. I lived a normal life in Germany with soccer and all the other things you would do. Normal things. Sure, I had a Porsche 911 remote car, but that was always just there somehow.
The moment I have started my passion for Porsche is a moment I can still remember. It was in 2012. A Friday evening on which we were supposed to be in the cinema but actually were in a club. Naughty naughty, I know, but don’t judge me! That evening her father gave us a lift in his Porsche Panamera. The addiction was born. Not for the Panamera, but for the Porsche lifestyle and brand. Back in 2012, the 911 991 was the one to get and God did it look great! Compared to the 997 or the following 992, it’s just such a stunning car. The 991 generation is the one I have to get! But it was so far away back then. I was just a kid leaving school. Sure, I had saved up quite some money back then, but in the Porsche world, this wasn’t more than a couple of sets of tires and the maintenance for the next three years.

Today, I am much closer actually. I have already driven one. The 911 991.1 Turbo S. And God, that was a mistake. Before, the normal Carrera seemed to be the car to choose, but now my little Porsche hearth is in trouble. This Turbo S was just brilliant on any level! There is not a single day I don’t think back at this weekend that is already two years ago.
Sure, the Porsche community started to judge the facelift 991.2 for the wrongness of the engines. But come one, we alway complain about the new things and praise the good old times. Do we really need a Porsche 911 in our life? And of course the rational answer is and will forever be no, but this is not about rational answers. A Porsche 911 is not just a car. If you don’t get it, fine, but if you do, you will appreciate every second of owning one. I don’t need a 911, but I will get one! And the 911 generation is the one I desire!
The great thing about life is that we are all so different! The awesome thing about owning any Porsche is that the community doesn’t care. Whatever car you drive, you have a reason for owning it and that is all that matters. Enjoy your life as long as you can! Owning a Porsche was never a mistake, you always learn from it one way or the other.
See you next time!
