Of course we have all heard this advice: “Always do more than you are paid for!” And for sure, this is a very good tip! It really works wonders! The only problem? What do we do in situations in which we are not getting paid? Exactly! Therefore it should rather sound like this: “Always do more than you are expected to do!“

But the wording doesn’t matter as long as we understand the message! And the message is clear! Always outperform the expectations of others! It makes the difference! Always!

And honestly, most of the time it’s so easy to outperform expectations. The bar is hanging very low most of the time anyways. Our society is changing! Our habits have changed! Nothing is free these days! Right!? Therefore, use this for your advantage. And don’t be afraid about running the extra lap! It will be hard at the beginning, maybe, but it is worth the effort in the end. Since my early days at work back in 2012 when I have started my apprenticeship, this was one of the most useful tips I ever got! “Render more service than you are paid for!” And you will be rewarded!
