Braking away the kinetic energy of my car feels always like a waste of energy. True, in my current Audi hybrid I can at least get some of that energy back, but it’s still a waste of energy. Especially when you have to brake because of someone else’s incompetence to drive.

Well, in the business world it’s all the same. Everything we do cost money. Every meeting, every phone call, every task we do. Sometimes we forget to think about it in this way, but honestly, we should think in those terms. In the cooperate world there are so many “useless” processes. Things we could do faster but we have to follow a process, a standard, a definite procedure. Well, not many are aware of the costs of all of that. Just take an easy example. A HR person writes an e-mail to the whole staff of your company and the text is a bit confusing. People do know what they have to do exactly and start worrying that they could do something wrong. Well, sounds familiar? The thing is this, now the people start to talk about it. To ask questions, to have meetings, this is the new hot topic to talk about. Well, if every employee of that company worries and talks about this topic for one hour, you can probably guess how much money this small e-mail cost.

Therefore, don’t just do the things the way you are used to do them. Think about it. Maybe you can avoid some waste.
