It would be too easy to simply describe what I have seen and noticed. You can watch it yourself! But today I want to talk about something specific. I want to talk about the changes this race has made in the past years.

I can still remember the days when the online stream during the night was just one camera of the start and finish line. Well, since then, a lot of things have changed. There are many different camera perspectives, onboard livestreams, helicopter cams and the like. No wonder so many thousand people are following the event online around the world. But it’s not all good as it always is. Too many people attract too much attention which automatically leads to more money crossing the table, which unfortunately leads to the loss of the real spirit of the race. Endurance racing in Germany was supposed to be the motorsport for everyone. Sure, motorsport was never cheap, but it also was never that expensive. It’s no longer about the small man and his team. It’s all about the big money. Sure, it’s just how it is in life, but I personally feel that things could be better. People are racing on the track like they are professionals. Sure, some of them are, but the risks of having an accident is way too high. People are driving over their limits! Professional drivers as well as amateurs. But for what?

Racing is supposed to be fun. You can’t build up a new car after any race. Sure, a factory racing team can do that, but no amateur team. So why risking so much? I guess the future will tell how this race will evolve. Eventually it might come back to its roots and become an automotive festival and not just a sprint race in which the money wins the race and not the talent.

By the way, congratulations to the winning team. They really deserve it after all those years they were trying to fight against all those factory racing teams.

See you next time!
