There is always someone with a faster or better looking car. That’s not the point, but when are you satisfied? How much horsepower do you need? How much do you want? How much can you afford? Life is all about balancing out the different interests we all have in order to find the best compromise. But what is the best compromise and how do we deal with experiencing a change of our expectations.
Over 10 years ago I was looking for a 997. Today I am focused more on the 991’s. What has changed? Everything has changed! But who tells me that nothing will change in the future. Spoiler alert, oven the future will change. I might have kids and need a bigger car, I might have no kids and can afford a GT3 RS. Honestly, who knows? But what should we do? Taking all of this into account before we decide upon our car? Finding a compromise? Doing what we want? Doing what seems to be a wise decision? It’s really hard, I know.
At the end of the day we are spending 95% of our time in the car being stuck in a traffic jam, cruising in a limited section or drive on a straight line. If you have 300, 500 or 700 hp doesn’t really make a difference here. The only difference you can experience is in those 5%. But is it worth the higher maintenance costs? A tricky thing to say. Some would say yes, definitely, others the exact opposite. I guess we have to differentiate between using the 911 on a daily basis driving everywhere, or if it is your second, third, or fourth car you just take out when everything seems to be perfect. For me, it’s definitely the first thing, so I have to consider taking a more basic 911 model, right? Well, technically speaking yes, but a Turbo S looks just so nice! And that’s the problem. We have to jump over our shadow and take a wise decision. At least a financially wise decision.
See you next time!
