#1509² TRIP TO BERCHTESGADEN – DAY 2 – Königssee

On the second day we actually had a bit more luck with the weather. The sun would fight its way through the clouds eventually. At least the morning looked already promising.

So we jumped into the car and off we went to the Königssee. It’s “the thing” to do there, so of course we also had to do it. You pay for the ticket and enter on of the electric boats that will ship you over. Is it worth a visit? Yes, even though all those tourists will go in your nerves. We took one of the first ships so we had a good hike without too many people already on their feet.

The first stop, St. Bartholomä.

From there we took the decision to continue by foot. Nobody mentioned the option to walk to the next stop of the boat and later on we knew why. It wasn’t the most easiest of paths to walk but definitely worth it. First the path leads up the hill to a waterfall. The path is wide, safe and secured. After that you have to be careful not to miss the entry of the other path to your left. We walked by it multiple of times because we couldn’t believe it’s that narrow. It’s a very thin path and doesn’t look like the actual path you should take, but it’s worth it. It took us not that long, but we are relatively fit and fast walkers. Please do only take this path if you know what you are doing. It rained the days before and it was very slippery. Walking in this direction isn’t a problem for anyone who is on an average fitness level with the right equipment. I was lacking the equipment which made the whole thing not only quite an adventure, but also a little dangerous. If there was rain, please do not attempt to walk the tour in the opposite direction. This will be a real struggle, believe me!

Next we arrived at the end of the “Königssee”. There you have a short walk to the “Obersee”. “Ober” means above and “see” lake, so it’s literally the lake above. It’s an easy path, 5-10 minutes, everyone can do that. You can also take your grandparents if you took the boat to “Salet”, which is the last of the two stops of the boat. This lake is worth the visit, even though there are too many Instagram and wannabe models. A hot spot for everyone who seeks the company of many people. But the water quality of this lake is really on an another level. If you look careful you can see the big water fall at the right top of the pictures.

You can continue walking the path right to the lake which leads you up the waterfall eventually, but there were too many people for us. We decided to go back to the boat and hike somewhere else in the afternoon. So we took the boat at Salet and enjoyed the tour back.

Back at “home”, there were less people who would stand in our way. Unfortunately I have injured myself, stupid incident while shopping, so we split up. I have enjoyed the evening at the lake while my friend continued hiking another route.

See you next time!
