#1510² TRIP TO BERCHTESGADEN – DAY 3 – DRIVING BACK HOME

The last third day was already our last day in the area. Due to my injury from the day before we were running out of alternatives. The decision was made to visit Red Bulls Hangar 7 in Salzburg before driving home. Honestly, if you are in the area, it’s a must do. Be careful not to take the Autobahn into Austria!!! You need the Vignette to drive there otherwise it will be expensive!!! Just take the B-Roads and you are fine.

We have arrived at 9 am when they are opening. Unfortunately this was kind of a moving day for them and they wanted to park some of the helicopters back in the Hangar. Meaning that they had to move all the airplanes and a lot of cars to make space for the helicopters. This took long! Very long! But it was cool for us to watch. We enjoyed this much more than just walking past the cars and the like.

It’s a cool collection of Red Bull related vehicles and aircrafts. It’s free to go in there. The people are super nice and friendly!!! The Hangar looks awesome and it’s nice that you can also watch the airplanes taking off at the Salzburg airport. If you are there, use the toilets!

They also have a restaurant and a cafe there, but it’s upper class and you should go somewhere else if you don’t want to be broke the next day.

After this nice visit we crossed the border back into Germany on the B-Roads before driving on the Autobahn in Bad Reichenhall. From there we mentally prepared ourselves for the mess we were about to experience. One traffic jam after the other, one incident after the other, everyone is driving on the left side. Honestly, it sucks to drive on the Autobahn on such days. The trip into the south took us 4 hours 39 minutes, the drive back 6 hours and 9 minutes. The time difference is not that great, but the difference in nerves that it costs, unbelievable. If you are planning on the driving on the Autobahn, please drive there properly. The soon as you can drive into the right lane!!! Yes, there are people behind you that want to drive faster! Even though you can’t see them in your rear view mirror because of all the other slow cars driving in the wrong lane.

All in all the trip was great for what it was, a short hiking trip into the alps. Next time we should plan such a trip more in advance to make it a couple more days.

See you next time!
