Draw a line where the new door should be located. Make sure the measurement is correct! Check twice or more often. Start with drilling through the wall to get a starting point. We decided to drill the area out of the wall and don’t cut it. We wanted to avoid too much dust flying around. With the drill we could use a vacuum cleaner which worked pretty handy. On the side you are drilling through, opposite to where you stand, the wall will burst open a bit, meaning that you should start drilling from the more precious side. Protect the ground with something useful and if possible use foils to avoid contaminating your whole house with the dust.
Once we drilled all around the line, we could remove the in-between connections of the wall and it was already loose. Now we just needed to start at one corner and remove the stones one after the other. Really, not that big of a deal. If carefully performed, you can even use them for another project, but in our case we just wanted to get rid of them. Put them somewhere we you can store them and drive them away. Now that the hole was in the wall, we could start trying to fit the door frame into it. If necessary you will have to make some small adjustments to the hole. Of course you don’t want to make it too big in the first place. Once that is done, you can position the door frame in the opening and fix its position. We had professional support from a friend, so that wasn’t a big issue. Make sure that the position is correct before you continue. Once that is done a two component foam is used to position the door frame permanently. Once that is completely dry the door is fixed. You can hang in the door and that’s it. The last step is to fix the openings around door frame. Use a trowel and apply the material accordingly. Bamm! Job done!
See you next time!
