It should come naturally. In fact, it comes naturally. But the more we think about it, the harder it gets. Try it yourself. Try to be aware about your breathing without influencing it. Ha! I think you have already did that! You might have hold your breath a bit longer than normally. Or forced an active pause in between the change to breathing out again. This is how it works. The moment we focus on something we become aware of it.
I noticed a different breathing behavior depending on the task or situation at hand. When I feel nervous or stressed, it’s much more shallow. When I feel deeply relaxed it’s slow and deep. When I think about it, like I do right now. It’s very much a mess that doesn’t follow any rhythm any longer. Isn’t that fascinating? I think it is!
The goal is to stay calm and relaxed no matter what. A goal that’s worth fighting for.
