There are two kind of books in this world. Good and bad. The topic decides if you like it? No. The author decides if you like it? No! Then what is it? The psychology of books. Let me explain.
When you watch a movie you see what is going on, you hear what is going on, there is not much room for interpretation. When you listen to an audio book, you hear what is going on. You listen to the story and create the pictures in your head yourself. With a book, it’s basically the same, just that you are the narrator of your own story.
The way a book is triggering your brain is causing you to like or hate the book. That’s why it is so important to keep the details to a minimum. The more an author is describing, the less the frame might fit into your imagination. Here is an example. If you read: “It was a grey Porsche 911.” It’s pretty much clear what you have in mind. You can still decide over the Generations of the car. Old or new. Open top or coupe. You got it. But the more details we get, the less likely everyone will like it. What about reading: “It was a sports car.” Now you can imagine whatever you want. A red Ferrari, a yellow Lamborghini, a dark muscle car. Your imagination will find the suitable car for your story.
See you next time!
