Can you stop living for a moment and think about your future?
A very common question in job interviews is the infamous “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” kind of a question, where we can hardly tell them what we really have in mind, right? At least that was always my problem. I plan my future actually quite far ahead of time and normally know exactly where I see myself in the future. But sure, you can hardly tell that to other people, especially in a job interview.
In our modern society, the key factor everybody is teaching you is don’t go above or below average. Just do what all the others are doing and you will be fine! Under no circumstances shall you stand out of the masses, do something differently or get more attention than your coworkers or who ever there is standing next to you in line.
But that is hardly what we are dreaming for, right? It’s not the average five door family car, the small house in the country side, or the office job where your boss gives everything he can in order to make this as close to hell as possible.
Think beyond limits!
That is what I recommend everyone to do, why? Because only then you can really figure out what this is all about.
For example, you want to have that fancy sports car. But is it really that sports car that you want? Or is it the feeling of driving fast, or is it the prestige you will get through owning this car? People just tend to limit themself. We dream as far as we think might be possible, but never go beyond these limits!
Sure, our limits might change over time and the older we become, the more likely it is that we get more moderate. We believe that we have figured out what is possible in life and what isn’t.
But that is the situation where we basically limit ourself and stand in our own way. We accept that we haven’t reached our goals until now and most likely will not reach them in the future. We give up! The sports car dream gets exchanged by the way more practical five door estate car, the penthouse apartment at the riverside gets exchanged by the small apartment in an unimportant part of the city and our life’s may end at this point all together.
You think, that you have reached your plateau. This is it. You could reach this step, but that’s the end for you my friend.
Well, as Henry Ford said:
Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.Henry Ford
The moment we stop to think beyond limits, we limit ourself. We accept our situation as the maximum output and stop moving forward.
We basically give up, even though we know that this behavior must be wrong.
The moment someone does something impressive in his life, we tend to do not enjoy watching this process, right? We think, that instead of this person, we are the once that deserved that kind of a success. We envy them, we talk them down, we put stones into their way, trying everything we can to stop them from taking the next steps.
But what the hell is wrong with us? Why can’t we accept our own situation as it is. If you are not working hard enough, who gives you the right to make it harder for other people who are actually going beyond limits? People, who are working on their future every single second of their life.
Don’t become one of these people that stopped on their journey without reaching their limits. Move on! Reach for the stars and reaching them will just become a matter of time.
See you next time!
