#402 Reaching goals – *Topic week 10* – Day 1 – The art of goals setting

Goals, everyone might have them. Pinned to your wall, written down on a piece of paper, or just flying around in your head. Somewhere your goals must be.

No, I do not really have them. I just live into the day, do you know?

Well, even that seems to be a goal. In the end, I don’t think that life without goals exist. You can hardly have no goals, because that would literally kill you right on the spot. If my goal isn’t to survive, well, hopefully I don’t forget to breath…

In life, everything is possible, but looking at this from a very personal perspective, not many people think that this is anything close to being realistic. They look at the world around them in the way they are used to do that and think:

“Wait a minute, what? Everything is possible? How come that I haven’t reached anything?”

But this is of course just a saying. You can hardly reach everything, at least not all at the same time. You might focus your attention on some goals in your life and make them become a reality.

The art of goals setting

When it comes to the topic of goals setting, you can find at least a thousand different ways how to do that properly. From self declared “Life coaches” to self-help gurus, from old fashion top manager advisors to motivational coaches. The list of possible sources might be long. But in the end, they are basically describing the same altogether.

Looking at the book “The Law Of Success” from Napoleon Hill, published 1928, you can find the baseline for the philosophy, that all the others are building up their own strategy on.

But I guess that’s a good sign! The moment someone else is copying your design, your idea or method, I guess, the thing must be really good. Therefore, Napoleon Hill’s approach should be good, if not excellent already.

Do I use his method? Kind of, let put it that way. Sure, I got inspired by him, but figured out my own way how to implement them into my personal life.

The best way how to do it is your own way!

Everyone of us might be unique and different. Some like visual imaginations, others prefer to just close their eyes and dream. The list of possibilities is long. But in the end, you need to find your own way how to do it.

But most of the time, we do not even get to the point of visualizing them, right? We do not even know what we want! What most of the “self declared coaches” out there do not really understand, is that this is in fact the hardest step. The other thing, repeating it three times a day and whatever, sure, everyone can do that. But if I do not even know what I want to reach, this is not really getting me anywhere, is it?

The two most important days in your life are the they you are born and the day you find out why.

Mark Twain

But how do I find out the why in my life? Is that even possible? It doesn’t seem to be very realistic. Just imagine I get this wrong and waste the next five years chasing after the wrong goals in life. This would be the end! Personally and maybe even financially.

What you need to understand is the following:
1. You give your life the purpose it needs.
2. There is no right or wrong.
3. Follow your inner voice, it knows the way.
4. Don’t be afraid to make something wrong.

The Art Of Goals Setting is just that, an art. Something you can learn to master. But not through reading today’s blog post. This is a process you need to start now, but it will take a while until you will in fact master it. But that is just fine the way it is, believe me.

Just take some 15 minutes of your time and think about your life. What are you doing? What are you chasing after? Why are you doing what you do? What do you miss in your life? What would you change if you could? Where do you want to be in 5 years?

Questions over questions. Just think about your life and what you are currently doing. And believe me, you are doing a lot. Why do you do what you do? What drives you? Why do you get up in the morning?

Get to know yourself. Sure, easier said than done. But if you will not start, you will never really find out who you are. And don’t get me wrong on this, we don’t want to primarily figure out your faults and weaknesses in order to find an excuse why you can’t. We are looking for the things you have developed a passion for. The things that are getting your mind focused and letting time fly by.

Start with yourself and you will see, the truth is not out there in the world, but instead already inside you.

You are the key to everything in life.

And than? Well, why don’t you write down some goals and use all of these methods out there and repeat them day in day out. Don’t worry, if you have defined the wrong goals, you will notice that really quickly. They will delete themselves from your priority list. They will just disappear on your way towards success.

The one that never stops seeking for more will reach more. The one that stops chasing after the goals will not only not reach them, but also will live in misery until he finally continues the quest to move on in life.

Don’t be afraid to make something wrong! You can’t make anything wrong. In fact, the only thing you can do wrong is when you do nothing.

Goals setting, a process you will master in the future. Just start to use your brain and think. You will find your way automatically.

See you next time!
