#1930² SORRY, BUT NOT SORRY – S6 E6 – MITTELSPURSCHLEICHER

I guess we start by explaining the word. Mittel = Middle. Spur = Lane. Schleicher = lurker. It’s a guy that drives in the middle or left lane on the Autobahn while the right lane is free. Agreed, depending on where you are from, you might not know about German rules on the Autobahn. Let me explain. In Germany you have the so called “Rechtsfahrgebot”, which means you have to drive in the right lane if possible. It’s well defined when you can stay I the middle or left lane in order to overtake someone, that’s why all these stupid idiots have no excuse for there wrong doing. If you drive onto the Autobahn you drive into the right lane. From there you can go into the left lanes for overtaking. I repeat! For overtaking! Not for chilling there for the next 300 miles. I drive a lot on the Autobahn and therefore see a lot of shit going on. But this is with far distance the most stupid and dangerous thing you can do. I have seen so many near misses because of people not following the most simple of rules rule to drive in the right lane.

Last week was such a situation. I was driving on the Autobahn at 10 pm in the evening during the work week. It was a three lane Autobahn and there was literally no traffic. It was pitch dark and no one on the road. Nevertheless, some super hero had the genius idea to drive in the middle of the fucking road. With a cruising speed of 130 he was blocking the middle lane. When approaching such a car from the back, you are not allowed to overtake him in the right lane. Outside of villages and cities you can only overtake on the left. Meaning that in order to overtake the car you have to drive into the left lane. Sure, this is normally not a problem, but a lot of people, as it seems, don’t use these things added to the car called mirrors. And so it happens as it always does. Out of nowhere someone slow in the middle lane causes someone a bit faster to go into the left lane while someone else is approaching with 280 km/h. A situation that is at least bad for the environment, considering the loss of kinetic energy of the cars breaking for no reason, if not something more serious is happening. I see the police controlling tuned cars in any major city in Germany but I have never seen a police car actuating doing something against those idiots driving in the middle lane. Their behavior is at least as dangerous as a tuned cars exhaust pipe that might be a bit louder than the other cars.

I for my part have developed such a hate for those people, that I actively show them their wrong doing by changing into the right lane after passing them on the left. And guess what! Only 50% of the people actually wake up from their day dream and change to the right lane too. Meaning that the other half is either doing it on purpose or don’t understand what is going on around them.

See you next time!
