It’s the tingling in my fingers. A short breath. A stiff neck. I know when I feel nervous and I know how it feels.
Noticing what is going on is supposed to be a good thing. It’s the first step towards changing something. But is this really such a good idea? Intercepting with one’s own body? I mean, there must be a reason why we feel so?
It’s ok to be nervous. It’s ok, to feel anxious. Especially when there is a reason for it. Let’s say you have a job interview. Of course you are reacting to the situation. I would say you should worry about yourself more if you don’t react.
But we are in this situation right now and thinking about it doesn’t make it any better? Those it? We have been there. All the way through the process. Multiple times. Thousand of times. Where do we park? Where do we have to go? What kind of questions are waiting for us? I can still remember the days when I was looking for my first job. The pressure was up! I mean it! These days, it’s quite the opposite. At least theoretically. But the pressure is still up.
What are we so afraid of? Making a bad impression? We need to change our perspective and look at the situation the other way around. We are all self absorbed, trying to get what we want or need. The new boss might urgently need a new team member to support his team, the other colleagues might need the support to go through their days. At the end, neither of them is paying my income. They are also just employees that have completely different things on their mind. An important meeting at work, the afternoon activities with their kids, there might be a lot going on inside their head, not leaving any space to think about what is going on with me.
And hey, at the end of the day I have applied for this job because I want it, right? So this is not the world doing something dreadful for me, this is actually something I want. Do I feel better know? Actually I do! At least until the thoughts are coming back. It’s work in progress but it’s important to focus on what you think. These repetitive worries don’t make it any better. Get rid of them.
See you next time!
