It’s most likely the skill of the 21st century. Stress level management. We do experience stress. Sometimes it feels positive, most of the time negative. That we can’t avoid stress should be clear to all of us. This world is packed with tasks, challenges and changes. It’s the elephant in the room that we can hardly ignore. But dealing with stress is something we do not really learn. There isn’t a subject about it at school. There is no hobby people do that is focusing on it. No, the only thing there is are things that are claimed to be stress relieving. Go for a run they say, or do some yoga. But if you are really having a problem with stress, that tip is as constructive as trying to stop a wildfire with a bottle of water. It might help your brain to accept the fact that you are doing something, but that something is not really having that much of an effect on your stress level. It’s rather the opposite. Trying new things is also adding some kind of stress to the agenda.
So what is stress level management? It’s a way to understand your current stress level, accept it and actively working on bringing it down. Every small little improvement is helping. You might wonder if a breathing technique is actually working? It is! And the more you practice such things, the better you get. I personally find it hard in the beginning to accept your current stress level. We try to ignore it. Talk it away. But fighting it’s existence is not the key, it’s accepting it and try to bring it back down.
See you next time!
