My GF is doing crossword puzzles like a grandma. It’s fascinating to watch. She gets these old looking magazines that are full of those fancy puzzles. Actually, now that I am thinking about it, it fits her current retirement lifestyle. She just exists, literally.

But the puzzles give her something she needs, dopamine. She is doing one after the other, as if a prize is waiting for her on the other side. Spoiler alert, there is none. She is doing this for pure entertainment. At least she could impress my dad with that hobby. He is doing crosswords puzzles too, but of course he is doing them, he has retired long ago.

On a more serious note, it’s cute how she is learning German through that. And actually it works. The only problem is that I do not know 99% of the old German words she is spelling out into the room. It feels like an ancient German person has incarnated and is now trying to communicate with a model native German. The good thing is I also learn a new word from time to time. And wondering what they might mean is actually a lot of fun. Good that the solution is shown in the back, otherwise I would doubt that it’s true.
