Germany is, or maybe we should say “was”, a relative stable country. At least if we look at the last 70 or so years. After the Second World War the economy grew, outperformed itself I guess we could call it. And so it was a country with happy people. People that could see that hard work is paying off. I just have to think about the generation of my dad and can see what was possible back then.
Today, the tables have turned. On multiple occasions. Houston, we have a problem. But nobody seems to return our call for help. Big problems always start small. Only if you let them grow, they become powerful and overwhelmingly strong. That’s exactly what has happened to us. Not just here, but here is where I live and where I can see the consequences first hand.
The political changes we are about to see are only the logical consequences. The consequences of a world that doesn’t work as it did 20 years ago. See, if you are a professional athlete that goes to Olympia the first time, you have a whole lot more respect about the event then when it’s your fourth time and everyone is already saying that you will be the champion. It’s those situations in which we need to show character. It’s those moments where you have to be humble and reflect on yourself. Germanys economy made exactly this mistake. We thought that we are the champion, no matter the weather on the day of the competition. But the weather has changed and we don’t really remember how it was working against the current.
We are at this point in history right now because of our past decisions. There is no way around that. Of course you can not look into the future and avoid all possible mistakes. Mistakes are a part of life. It’s what we learn out of them, that will show how Europes future will look like.
What Germany is missing are people that actually want to see the problems as they are. And I am not talking about recent problems. We have quite some problems that we have for the last 50 years that no-one took care of. It’s not just recent decisions. Political work is like a big ship captain. You set sail for a direction and the ship will follow eventually. But only over time and if you don’t change the course.
