What sounds like the most awesome thing ever, can in fact turn right into your biggest nightmare. As the lockdown was shutting down the Universities around the globe in early spring, the “online semester” got introduced. Well, come on! We are living in the 21st century! Where is the problem? We do everything online! Why not studying online as well?
I mean, there are a lot of programs out there that are specifically focusing on that. Supporting people to study next to a normal nine to five job in the evening or on the weekends. So, not a big deal, right?
Well, actually, there is a problem!
If you are a student yourself, please, answer this question! Why haven’t you decided to study from home anyways? You could have signed into one of those distance learning universities that are out there on the market, right? Well, you did not! You decided to take the usual way. Physically going to university! Sitting in a course and listening to a professor talking.
That I do not think that the program in universities is good, was a topic in numerous occasions already. But especially in this very situation we are in, it will make matters even worse.
And the pressure is on!
Just imagine starting to study in this kind of a situation. How is this supposed to end? People sitting in front of a computer for 10 hours straight, watching the professor going crazy because of the bad connection? Sure, don’t get me wrong on this, everything is possible. But in this case, nobody is really prepared. They need to change the complete concept, of course they need to. But they don’t do it! They keep on going like they have been doing in the last 20 years.
How to study in COVID-19 times?
You need to start with yourself! HEY YOU! YES! YOU! FOCUS NOW! PUT YOUR PHONE A WAY! DON’T WATCH SOMETHING ON YOUTUBE! DON’T LOOK OUTSIDE THE WINDOW! DO I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION?
If you want to make the best out of this situation, then you need to be clever! You need to be smart! Are you smart? Are you clever?
Create a time table!
There is nothing worse than just living into the day! You can do that on the weekends if you want to, sure! But not during the work week!
GO TO BED EARLY!
You need a sleeping circle that is consistent! Create a regular time to go to bed and a regular time to get up! Stick to the this plan and you will see, it works!
DON’T DO TOO MUCH
Has he really said that? Yes, I have! Sitting in front of the computer for 10 hours straight? Who are you? Mark Zuckerberg creating Facebook? No! Well, then have some breaks! Get some time off the couch! Put your computer a way and breath some fresh air! Have a walk! Do some exercises in your room. Cook something nice! Watch a movie!
FUCKING ENYOY THIS!
Studying is not supposed to be hard, boring or stupid! Don’t be a fool! There is nothing won by physically suffering because of this! Have fun! Do some jokes! Try to make the tasks more fun!
Work with other people!
I said! WORK, not STUDY! Be careful with this one! Studying is when focusing on something and trying to burn it into your brain! Working is when doing a project or solving some issues! There is nothing won by sitting around in your room alone all the time. Have some online meetings. Discuss the topics. Speak about things you are supposed to learn. And have fun while doing so, of course!
DON’T take life so serious!
Life is not supposed to be hard! Therefore, don’t make it too hard. Find a good pace! Find your pace!
START studying for the exams today!
The best day for starting to study for the exams is always today! I don’t know when your next exams will be, but this doesn’t matter! Just start today! The earlier, the better!
ASK if you don’t understand something!
Believe it or not, but the guy on the other side of the line is just a human being as well! How should your professor know if you guys got it or not? In class, he would see it in your faces. But online? Well, they have no clue! Professors usually don’t eat you alive. Just ask if you don’t get it! They will help you!
Volunteer to answer questions in the beginning of a session!
If the professor asks questions, you need to volunteer! Why? That’s pretty easy. If you answer the first three questions in the lesson, the professor will not randomly ask you any other questions during the other part of the lesson. That way he or she will not ask you anything later on in the lesson when you are focusing on something else.
Use the chances to talk with the professors in extra lessons, meetings, or the like. Show them your interest, ask the right questions, and soon, they will tell you the things you need to know for the exams, projects, or whatever you need more information about.
Show up to every course you take!
You are supposed to be at home! Therefore, there is no excuse for you not joining a lessons! Just be there and listen! It will help you to study the stuff more easily later on!
And last but not least! Don’t panic! Everything will be fine! No, you don’t have COVID-19, you most likely just caught a cold!
See you next time!
