A “Rechnung” is a bill in German. My GF loves this word, she is using it whenever she can. Sometimes without actually trying to say it. But it’s not that she loves the meaning behind it, she is just amazed how we could make “Zettel” out of it. Zettel means a piece of paper and cashiers describe the bill with that. So every time you are standing in a shop, already paid and ready to go they ask you like. “Zettel?” and you say either yes or no. They have to ask, at some point I think there was even a rule that they have to print it anyways, but don’t ask me how that is. For certain purchases the Zettel makes sense and so I end up taking it most of the time. It helps to keep track of your expenses, you know.
See you next time!
