We all do know something. Maybe it’s our job to know stuff, maybe a hobby or just our interest for it. Just imagine for the moment that we have a lot of experience with something, whatever it is. If we would need to learn this skillset all over again, we know exactly what to do to get there. We know the little tricks, we know about our mistakes. Doing it again feels natural and easy to us. When learning something new on the contrary, we are missing that part of the equation. We have to figure it all out on our way. This is sometimes easy, but sometimes it also feels quite overwhelming and exhausting. We try to learn from others of course, looking how they did it and so on, but at the end of the day, sometimes we need to learn things the hard way.
