For sure, we can’t change the current situation. It is like it is, right? Our part in this mess is not to blame the situation after all, but instead to make the best out of it.
Generally speaking, your company might have decided to send you into the home office for the next couple of weeks, or has introduced some clear and strict rules about how you need to behave at work and how to interact with other people. You may need to leave work earlier than usual, or work only part time, or do not work after all.
But the show must go on, right?
Nevertheless, your free time activities might be cancelled all together. Maybe you are used to playing tennis, or doing something similar like that which is not very feasible to do at home. The moment the public life comes to an end, usually, people are effected by that. Of course this doesn’t mean that it hits each and everyone of us with the same intensity, but you will at least noticing that something is going on in the world around you.
Stepping back from that individual point of view, we might come to the conclusion, that now is the time of the year, where we will most likely have the most of this valuable resource called time.
Therefore, why don’t we use that?
It could be the time to finally do a bit more of the stuff we actually want to do and less of the stuff we don’t want to do after all. Sure, generally speaking we should always focus more on the good side of life instead of directing our attention to the negativity out there, but that’s definitely easier said than done, am I correct?
If it comes to talking about how to do something better, or finding excuses for not doing it better, or dreaming about a better world we could all live in happily together for the other part of our lives, we are the world champions, right? But when it comes to the actual part of doing something, changing the world, improving life every single day, it seems like we get injured quite early on in the game and sadly need to step back from our position on the field.
If the mindset isn’t there, the body will not follow.
Nobody expects anything from you. Not your boss, not your wife, not your husband, not your kids, neighbors, moms and dads or whatever you can come up with. At the end of the day, they will need to deal with your decisions and not the other way around. Therefore, do not focus your attention on the others, but instead onto the only person that should really matter in your life and this is you.
The best strategy is always to feel like having no strategy after all. Because if we are really honest, why do we always need to have a plan, or a strategy, or whatever? We always try to think rational and in the way, a CEO would probably look at the world and the company he or she is currently working for.
But that is not what we want to have in our free time!
Free and time! That’s everything I need to say, right? That’s not having a schedule, or working with strategies, or whatever. Sure, if you really want to, you can of course use some these fancy English named strategies and brainstorm the fuck out of your time schedule. But that is neither really effective in the end, nor will it help you to finally do more.
The change needs to come from within.
If you are not convinced by the idea of owning a Porsche, you would never ever even think about calling your insurance company and ask them how much it will cost you to run a Porsche in the end. Why? Because that makes no sense, you don’t want to have that car after all. So why do you want to make plans for something you do not want to do after all? That is not the best idea in the world, or at least that is what I think about it.
If you have more time then usual due to the current situation we are all in, why don’t you figure out what you really want to do and then simply do that? It is that easy, but it seems like we forget about that option from time to time. Nobody needs a gym in order to do a proper workout. Nobody needs special barbells, or fancy pieces of machinery for training their bodies. Sure, you are used to doing that, but there are other ways as well.
If you would allow me to have one wish, I would demand, that you need to stop reading this blog post, think about the most important thing in your life and spend your extra free time exactly with that. If it is your wife, good for her, if it is your kid, awesome, if it is your sport, your garage project, your book, your movie collection, whatever it is, invest your time into that. It’s so simple!
Just do what you love!
You do not need a fancy schedule for that! You have so many schedules in your life already, please, don’t create another one.
The best strategy? Love what you do, or do what you love.
Ask your hearth and it will tell you the next step. Follow your passion and you will be rewarded.
See you next time!
