Just imagine being in one of those hipster cafes somewhere around the globe, for example in a cool and hip place like Berlin, or wherever you are located and talking to the guy next to you while enjoying a gluten- and lactose-free fair traded latte macchiato from Honduras on an uncomfortable designer chair made out of recycled plastics from the ocean. What would this dude give you for a piece of advice after hearing your start-up fears and problems?
Fail fast and cheap.Seth Godin
Fail often. Fail in a way
that doesn’t kill you.
Better fail hard and fast instead of slowly and gradually, right! The moment you know that your business idea sucks, well, at least now you know it and can make it better next time! But we! We can’t simply act like this! Are you mad! Failing is not an option! What would the neighbors say!?
In our world, failing is not an option! Can you imagine having a CV in which you have started to study, law, then medicine, then engineering and finally tried philosophy before giving up once and for all and never actually survived more than a semester or two? Can you imagine what they will say? What will they say? Will they say:
“Good job man! At least you tried! Well, now you know the things that you do not want to do in life. God, I wish I would have done the same thing!”
Or will their response rather sound like this?
“What the fuxx is wrong with you! You are a failure! A looser! Somebody that cannot continue what they start! Go home! We don’t need people like you, here!”
In our world, there is simply put no space for failing! People just can not afford to fail! What will your neighbors say? Your relatives and your family? And what do we do? We stop! We panic! We develop a certain respect towards approaching new things in life! We might already calculate the risks of failing far before actually figuring out how cold the water really is, so too speak! We are so afraid of failing, no wonder we do not do anything very innovative!
If you don’t fail now and again, it’s a sign you’re playing it safe.Woody Allen
Just have a look at this blog project here, you are currently reading joyfully in the morning sunlight on your terrace precisely at 9:11 am. The day I have started this 459 days ago, I told nobody! In fact, I haven’t even told my parents in the first couple of weeks. Why? Because of their reaction? Because of fear they would talk me out of this awesome idea!? Or because I was afraid to fail? In the first two month of the project, besides my parents and sister I told nobody! Not my friends, not my colleagues, just nobody! It took me three month to finally take the courage and share the link with my social media channels and stuff. But why did I do that? Because I was afraid about the reaction of other people? Because I wanted a safety net that would catch me before being the guy that failed?
I had no clue about blog writing, and if you go back a couple of pages, you can clearly figure this out on your own! But the thing is not to be perfect right at the beginning! It’s not about that and in fact it never was! Steve Jobs has not invented the iPhone on his first day working in the garage!
It’s never about the start! It’s just about starting!
Keep the stone rolling! 459 days ago I have started off into my blog writing adventure with a definite goal in mind! I already knew that I would made it! The question was not when? Because that was clear already! Somewhere in the future of course! But the question was how? How will I get there! What tools do I need? What steps do I need to take?
The journey towards success is what, right! A journey! How do you get from point A to point B in life? Right! Step by step! But if you do not start, how are you supposed to reach your goals? We can talk about this topic for ages! But the answer will not get more clearer than this!
The perfect time for starting will not come! Therefore, what are you waiting for! It’s now or never! Get your shit together and finally do something! And come on! Don’t tell me your stupid excuses why you can’t! We already got that one covered! At the end of the day it will always be your fault! It will be your inaction that will lead you not towards ordering the Porsche, but the Nissan or Mitsubishi instead! Sure, it will drive you from point A to point B in life as well, but…
And with that said, it’s time to end todays post! I hope the message is clear now! Just start!
If failure is not an option, neither is success. Innovation is just repeated failure till you come up with something that works.Seth Godin
See you next time!
